Identification
- Medium-sized hawk of the woodland
- Brown above, reddish below
- Tail has broad dark and light bands
- 16" (41 cm.)
Habitat Additional Information
- Abundant migrant, common summer
resident northern WI, uncommon summer resident farther south - Has been found on the KVR in breeding
season - Call is a high thin whistle on one note
- Eats toads (WBBA)
- Sometimes migrate in large soaring flocks
known as "kettles"
