Identification
- Small songbird
- Breeding plumage streaky-dark above, white below
- Yellow crown, black area through eye, black mustache
- Chestnut area on sides
- Female has less black on face and less chestnut coloring
- Fall coloring --lime green above, yellowish wingbars, some chesnut on sides
- 5" (13cm.)
Habitat
- Second growth forest and forest edges
Additional Information
- Common migrant
- Common summer resident north; rare summer resident south
- Male's song has accented ending: "please, please, pleased to meetcha"
- Spends winter in Central America
