  • Red patch from forehead onto triangular
         bill, whitish tip
  • Brownish back, dark gray undersides,
         neck and head
  • White stripe on sides
  • 13” (33 cm)

Habitat

  • Marsh, ponds

Identification

  • aka Common Moorhen, Swamp chicken,
  • Status in Kickapoo Watershed: Rare
         migrant – very few records.

Common Gallinue in a marsh

The Kickapoo Reserve Management Board acknowledges that the state and federal lands that comprise the Reserve fall within the ancestral homelands of First Nations people including the Hooçak Nation.
