Identification

  • Male: whitish lower body, black back,     green head, red feet and bill 
  • Female: mostly grey, dark rufous head,     white chest and spot under chin square white wing patch
  • 25" (60 cm)

Habitat

  • Wooded ponds and lakes
  • Some rivers

Additional Information

  • Common migrant
  • Winters in Mexico
