Identification

  • Plain olive brown above, light belly
  • Bright yellow throat and upper breast
  • Male has distinctive black face mask
  • Female and immature have plain olive face
  • 4-5" (11-13 cm.)

Habitat

  • Open areas with shrubs
  • Wetlands

Additional Information

  • Common migrant and summer resident
  • Male sings "witchity-witchity-whitchity"
  • Often seen on or near the ground, or in
         shrubs
  • One of the most abundant KVR 
         breeding birds
