Identification

  • Small songbird, large warbler
  • Olive back and wings
  • Bright yellow below
  • Grey hood and throat
  • Conspicuous white eyering
  • Hood of female and immature more brownish
  • 5.75" (15 cm.)

Habitat

  • Spruce and tamarack bogs, also jack pine
         and oak barrens
  • During migration, a variety of forested
        
    areas and thickets

Additional Information

  • Uncommon migrant
  • Shy and secretive
  • Forages on or near the ground
  • Walks rather than hopping
  • Winters in South America
