  • Small song bird
  • Brown, streaked back, plain grey-brown rump
  • Reddish cap, pink bill
  • Grey face with slight rufous markings
  • Narrow white eyering
  • Light unstreaked underparts
  • 5.25-6" (13-14 cm.)

  • Old fields

  • Common migrant and summer resident
  • Wisconsin species of special concern
  • Population in decline
  • Feeds on fallen seeds, will land on grass to 
    weigh it down to the ground, then eat seed
  • Somewhat common KVR breeding bird
