Identification

  • Males: Gray duck with dark bill, black rump, brown head
  • Female: mottled brown with yellowish bill, white patch in tail feathers
  • Both genders have yellow feet
  • 20” (54 cm)

Habitat

  • Lakes, ponds, marshes

Additional Information

  • Grabs food from other ducks
  • Populations increasing since 1980's
  • uncommon spring and fall KVR migrant

Comparable Species

  • Female similar to female Mallard
