Identification

  • Very small songbird
  • Dull olive above, light below
  • Bold stripes on face and crown
  • Black eyestripe, white stripe above eye
  • Two wingbars
  • Male has yellow crown with orange 
         center, bordered by black stripes
  • Female lacks orange in crown
  • 4" (10 cm.)

Habitat

  • Coniferous forests
  • Variety of habitats in winter

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and winter resident
  • Flicks wings
  • Gives high "see-see-see" call
  • Early spring migrant, late fall migrant
