Identification

  • Medium-sized thrush
  • Gray-brown above
  • Light below with dark spots
  • Plain grayish face, gray flanks 

Habitat

  • Dense shrubs and low trees with dense
    Undergrowth in Alaska and northern Canada
  • During migration, in a variety of
         forested areas

Additional Information

  • Uncommon migrant
  • Shy
  • May be confused with other thrushes,
         especially Swainson's, which has more
         buffy "spectacles" and more buffy
         color on face and upper breast
  • Tends to forage on or near the ground
