Identification

  • Olive green above
  • Yellow below, white on outer tail feathers
  • Male has black cap and "hood" surrounding bright yellow face
  • Female lacks black hood, is slightly darker  around face
  • 5.25" (13 cm.)

Habitat

  • Shrubby clearings in deciduous forests

  • Rare spring migrant and summer resident
  • Wisconsin threatened species
  • Male sings clear "weeta-weeta-wee-tee-oh"
  • Female similar to female Wilson's Warbler
