Identification
- Summer Males: mostly black face and chin, with reddish or rusty colored nape
- Winter males light band above eye, less pronounced red on back of neck,subtle black streaks on breast
- Winter female, similar to male, lacking red color on neck
Habitat
- Open areas, fields, prairie
Additional Information
- Nest in the tundra
- Circumpolar species
- Frequent winter species in Wisconsin
- Often found with Horned Larks and/or Snow Buntings
