Identification

  • Medium-sized shorebird
  • Spotted brown above, light below
  • Breeding birds have streaking and spotting on neck, chest and sides
  • Long yellow legs, long neck, medium-length straight bill
  • White rump
  • Smaller and more delicate build than similar Greater Yellowlegs
  • 9.5" (24 cm.)

Habitat

  • Ponds, flooded fields

Additional Information

  • Common migrant
  • Often travel in migration with
         other shorebirds
  • Preyed on by Peregrin Falcons during
         migration
