Identification

  • Small songbird
  • Dark olive brown upperside
  • White underneath with brown streaks
  • White throat, thick white eyebrow
  • Wags tail up and down while walking
  • 6" (15 cm.)

Habitat

  • Forested stream banks

Additional Information

  • Uncommon spring migrant and summer
         resident
  • Wisconsin species of special concern
  • WI is at northern edge of range
  • Nests along steep ravines near river
  • While establishing territory, males sing
         nearly all day
  • Very similar to Northern Waterthrush,
         a migrant
  • KVR breeding bird found near the river
