Magnolia Warbler -

Identification

  • Small songbird
  • Dark above except for yellow rump
  • Bright yellow underside, with black streaks
         along the sides
  • White under tail
  • Breeding male has grey crown, thin white
         eyebrow, and black mask
  • White wing patch and broad white tail
         patches
  • Female less streaked on sides, lacks mask,
         has two white wingbars
  • Fall males and immatures resemble females
  • 5.5" (14 cm.)

Habitat

  • Variety of forested areas, especially edges
  • Breeds in dense young conifer stands in
         boreal forest

Additional Information

  • Common migrant
  • Found in mid canopy branches and lower
  • Male displays white patches on wings and
         spreads tail
  • Winters in Mexico, Central America, Cuba,
         and Bahama Islands
