Magnolia Warbler - (Dendroica magnolia) Audio
Identification
- Small songbird
- Dark above except for yellow rump
- Bright yellow underside, with black streaks
along the sides
- White under tail
- Breeding male has grey crown, thin white
eyebrow, and black mask
- White wing patch and broad white tail
patches
- Female less streaked on sides, lacks mask,
has two white wingbars
- Fall males and immatures resemble females
- 5.5" (14 cm.)
Habitat
- Variety of forested areas, especially edges
- Breeds in dense young conifer stands in
boreal forest
Additional Information
- Common migrant
- Found in mid canopy branches and lower
- Male displays white patches on wings and
spreads tail - Winters in Mexico, Central America, Cuba,
and Bahama Islands
