Identification
- Large duck
- Male has green head, dark brown breast,
grey body, yellow bill - Female is mottled brown, orange bill
- Non breeding male and juveniles resemble
female - 23" (58 cm.)
Habitat

Common migrant and summer resident
- Hardy, may be found in winter if there is open water
- Wisconsin hunters bag more mallards than
any other duck species
