  • Medium-sized hawk with white rump patch
  • Male grey above, white below, wingtips black
  • Female mottled brown
  • Juvenile brown above, cinnamon below
  • 17-23" (43-58 cm.)

Habitat

  • Marshes, open grasslands

Additional Information

  • Common migrant, uncommon summer
         resident in southwest WI
  • Also known as Marsh Hawk
  • Flies low hunting over fields or marsh
  • Nests on the ground
