Identification

  • Large duck
  • Both sexes have long, flat bills
  • Male green head with long, flat, dark bill
        
    white breast, brown on sides with white
         areas above and at tail end
  • Female mottled brown like female mallard,
         but has large flat bill
  • 19" (48 cm.)

Habitat

  • Wetlands, ponds

Additional Information

  • Migrant
  • Uncommon breeders in Wisconsin
  • More common in western North America
  • Mallard drakes have similar colors
