Northern Waterthrush -
(Seiurus noveboracensis)

Identification

  • Small songbird
  • Dark olive brown upperside
  • White or yellowish underneath with
         brown streaks
  • White or buffy eyebrow, narrower behind eye
  • Wags tail up and down while walking
  • 5-6" (13-15 cm.)

Habitat

  • Shrubby wetlands and forests near open water

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant
  • Very similar to Louisiana Waterthrush
  • Has loud ringing song
  • Breeds in northern swamps and bogs
  • One of the first species to migrate in the fall
