  • White underneath with dark "vest"
  • Stout, large for a flycatcher
  • Stout beak
  • 7" (18 cm.)

Habitat

  • Boreal forest
  • Conifer swamp for nesting
  • Forests and forest edges during migration

Additional Information

  • Uncommon migrant
  • Wisconsin species of special concern
  • Often found perched at the very top of
         a tree, foraging for flying insects
  • Song a three-noted whistle:
         "quick, three beers!"
