Identification
- Medium-sized songbird
- Male has black head, back, tail and wings
- Brick red breast
- Female is olive above, yellow-green below, dark grey to black wings with two
white wingbars
- Immature male similar to female, with
black bib
- 6-7" (15-18 cm)
Habitat
- Deciduous forest, farmsteads
- Open areas with some trees
Additional Information
- Uncommon migrant and summer resident
- Spends relatively little time on breeding
grounds
- Raises one brood
- Occasionally found on the Reserve
