Identification

  • Small, dark brown, duck-like bird
  • Dark stripe on light bill 
  • Very short tail
  • 13.5" (34 cm.)

Habitat

  • Wetlands, lakes, ponds

Additional Information

  • Found on the KVR during migration
  • Common summer resident in other parts
         of the state
  • To hide from intruders, the Grebe gradually
         sinks lower in the water
