Ring-necked Pheasant - (Phasianus colchicus) Audio
Identification
- Large chicken-like bird
- Male: mottled bronze with long pointed tail, back of neck and throat green with white stripe below, bare red skin patches around eye, ear tufts behind red patch
- Female: smaller, mottled brown, long pointed tail
- 21-33" (53-84 cm.)
Habitat
- Field edges, hedgerows, roadsides, grasslands
- Open country with some cover
