Identification

  • Very small songbird
  • Olive grey above, lighter below
  • Two wingbars, short tail
  • Eyering
  • Male - red crown spot, occasionally shown
  • Female lacks orange spot
  • 4.25" (11 cm.)

Habitat

  • Spruce-fir boreal forest for nesting
  • Variety of habitats during migration

Additional Information

  • Common migrant
  • Flicks wings
  • Gives two-noted "ji-dit" call
  • Male sings sweet warbly song on migration
  • Sometimes allows close approach
         by humans
