  • Fan-shaped tail with black edge
  • Feathered legs

Habitat

  • Brushy woodland,
  • Young aspen groves

  • Declining population in SW Wisconsin
  • Spring courtship display--male rapidly
         beats wings while standing on a
         hollow log, creating a drumming or
         thumping sound that increases in speed
