  • Small songbird
  • Male bright red with black wings and tail
  • Female olive green above, greenish
         yellow below
  • Black or brown wings
  • 6.5-7" (17-18 cm.)

Habitat

  • Deciduous and mixed forest

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and summer resident
  • Sensitive to forest fragmentation
  • Song sounds like a raspy robin
  • Distinctive call note: "chip-burr"
  • Common summer breeding bird in the KVR
