Identification

  • Small, slim blue or greenish-black songbird
  • White below
  • Notched tail
  • Immatures are dusky brown above
         and light below
  • 5-6" (13-15 cm.)

Habitat

  • Wetlands, open areas, roadsides

Additional Information

  • Abundant migrant, common summer
         resident
  • Early spring migrant, appearing late
         March or early April
  • Nests in tree cavities or nest boxes
  • Lines nest with feathers
  • Eats insects and berries
  • Immatures may be confused with
         Rough-winged Swallows
