  • Large, dark, soaring, raptor-like
  • Red bare skin on head of adult
  • Two-toned wing color underneath
  • Head of juvenile dark
  • 27" (69 cm.)

Habitat

  • Open country and woodlands

Additional Information

  • Common migrant and summer resident,
         feeds on carrion
  • Soars in wide area searching for food
  • While soaring, holds wings in shallow "V"
  • Nests on ledges of rock cliffs, in large
         hollow trees, or abandoned buildings
