- Large, dark, soaring, raptor-like
- Red bare skin on head of adult
- Two-toned wing color underneath
- Head of juvenile dark
- 27" (69 cm.)
Habitat
- Open country and woodlands
Additional Information
- Common migrant and summer resident,
feeds on carrion - Soars in wide area searching for food
- While soaring, holds wings in shallow "V"
- Nests on ledges of rock cliffs, in large
hollow trees, or abandoned buildings
