  • Medium-sized marsh bird
  • Brownish above, rusty below
  • Grey cheeks, long slender bill
  • 9.5" (24 cm.)

Habitat

  • Shallow marsh in dense vegetation

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and summer resident
  • Secretive; heard more than seen
  • Usually stays on the ground
  • Seldom flies other than during migration
  • Can dive and swim
