Permits are required for the various visitor uses at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing require a day or annual permit. Camping on the Reserve requires a separate permit. All vehicles parked at river access sites must display a day, annual, camping, or vehicle parking permit. Hunting, fishing, and trapping on the Reserve are exempt from day permits; however, if a sportsman's vehicle is parked in a signed area (i.e. canoe landing) requiring a parking permit, a vehicle parking or day use permit must be displayed.

Effective January 1, 2018 the following use fees are:

Day Use (includes parking at river access sites)
 - $5/person;
 - $15/family of four or more

Annual (includes parking at river access sites)
- $20/person
- $35/family (2 adults +)
Purchase Annual 

Camping (day or annual permit also required)
- Non-vehicle accessible sites - $10/night/site
- Vehicle accessible sites - $15/night/site

(a campsite is defined as up to ten persons or one family--father, mother and all unemancipated children plus two guests--occupying the same site.) Obey the signed camp area capacity limits for number of campers allowed per camp area. Most sites are 10 people.

Parking Only
- $5/vehicle at river access sites

Event Permit - $75/day minimum; day permits may also be required

All fees go directly to maintaining, improving, and protecting the Reserve.

Permits may be obtained at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Visitor Center or at one of the 16 self-registration stations located at trail heads, camp areas, and river access sites (see the KVR Visitor Guide Map for these locations). A paper version can also be completed for print and mail.

Large groups wishing to camp or hold events on the Reserve are required to submit an event permit. Call or email the Reserve visitor center for details on how to complete and submit an event permit request.
