The Kickapoo Valley Reserve typically hires seasonal staff for field and office positions as needed. These position announcements are released in late winter or early spring, and are advertised in local papers, on social media, and on our website. The number of seasonal positions varies each year based on project goals and/or returning seasonal staff. Openings for full-time permanent positions at the KVR are very infrequent, but will be advertised in the same manner as seasonal employment. The education program welcomes applications at any time for instructors or naturalists on an as-needed basis (see below).
The Kickapoo Valley Reserve board is seeking a pool of applicants to serve as education program instructors/naturalists on a per diem (as needed basis). We are looking for motivated individuals who enjoy being outdoors and teaching activities and programs at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Programs focus on a wide variety of environmental sciences and outdoor recreation activities. Topics include, but are not limited to: pond study, animal tracking, orienteering, low ropes challenge course, geology, and human history.
The ideal candidate(s) should have a flexible schedule, an appreciation for outdoor and nature awareness education, experience working with children, and the ability to work effectively with the public. Applicants should be motivated and able to work independently. You will pick the dates you are available to teach given the schedule of our teaching needs. Programs typically occur Monday-Friday between 8 AM and 4:30 PM.
Selected individuals will receive an hourly wage, on contractual agreement, to compensate for their time teaching. Training is available, but prior experience working in a teaching and/or nature center environment is highly desirable.
To apply: Please submit a resume with three references and a letter of interest to our education department.
