Identification
- Small songbird
- Greenish above, yellow below with black
stripes
- Large white wing patch, yellow rump
- White under tail
- Male has rufous area above and below
eye with yellow below and on sides of neck - Dark crown
- Female and immature duller, lack rufous
cheek patch
- 5" (13 cm.)
Habitat
- Mature, extensive coniferous forests
- Northern Wisconsin is at the southern
edge of the Cape May's breeding range.
Additional Information
- Fairly common migrant
- A spruce budworm specialist in boreal
forest habitat
